Cross-Cultural Fashion Takes Stage When Matariki lit up Delhi with a celebration of design, diversity, and dialogue
Retropop Lifestyle
|June-July 2025
There are moments in fashion where the runway becomes more than just a space for garments — it transforms into a living, breathing dialogue between cultures. On a shimmering June evening in New Delhi, such a moment unfolded with rare grace.
-
Bringing together the soul of Aotearoa and the vibrancy of India, the New Zealand High Commission, in collaboration with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) and Education New Zealand (ENZ), presented RE/NEW: A Time to Shine — a cultural and fashion showcase that marked Matariki, the Māori New Year.
But this wasn’t just an event. It was a celebration of cross-cultural creativity, youthful innovation, and shared heritage. It was, in every sense, a confluence of stars — metaphorically and literally.
A Celestial BeginningRooted in the rising of the Pleiades star cluster, Matariki heralds the beginning of the Māori lunar calendar in the Southern Hemisphere. It is a time of remembrance, reflection, and renewal — values that echo with uncanny harmony in India's own seasonal cycles and traditional festivals.
This alignment of spiritual rhythms across continents laid the foundation for a fashion showcase that was as meaningful as it was magnificent.
