You're known for incorporating contemporary themes in your performances. What drives your desire to innovate and experiment in the traditional art form?
Bharatanatyam is a sophisticated art form. Some art forms lend themselves to nuance and modernisation. For me, Bharatanatyam is a powerful medium. What each of us does with an art form is up to us. There is great strength in Bharatanatyam, especially the Pandanallur style that was further developed by Amma [Mrinalini Sarabhai]. It is both dynamic and delicate at the same time.
