The second edition of the Southern Off-road Challenge held at Uppinangadi attracted a huge response of over 80 participants who took part in four different classes near Puttur recently.
From the total of five stages, two were designed for the Stock class and three stages were in the menu for the premier Modified class. The event took off on time but the delay in running time caused the event to finish midway in Stage 2 after it was dark and only six could clear the stage and the remaining were DNF. The final stage was declared DNF for all.
Women's class
Sahana Shetty from Bengaluru was victorious in the Women's class garnering a total of 190 points. She was clean and consistent and second fastest in both the stages and with zero penalties she dominated the class. Sapna Gurukar from Sakleshpur though being fastest in both the stages had to settle for second position with a total of 190 points. She was faster by about 1min 50sec in both the stages but her fastest time was followed by 10 penalties in both the stages. Aksa Ajay did not take a start in Stage 1 but after taking a start in Stage 2, she was DNF which gave her 20 points to finish third in the table.
Modified class
Fahed logged 205 points from three stages and won the premier class comfortably. He clocked the fastest time of 2:11.13 in Stage 1 but also took 10 penalties. Still he was the topper of the stage and in the second stage he was second fastest with no penalties and the third stage it was dark and the slush point was impossible to clear and hence the 20 points for DNF was given to the final stage competitors who were at the start.
