BLAST FROM THE PAST Leica IIIf

LAUNCHED 1950

PRICE AT LAUNCH Approximately £130

GUIDE PRICE NOW £300-350

If you're looking for a Leica that balances an impressive spec against a reasonable price, consider the IIIf. It was the last of the original screw-lens cameras made before Leitz completely revamped the design with the bayonet-mount M3 in 1954. Actually, the Illg screw-lens camera was made after the M3, but its place in history has made it an expensive collector's item. The Illf is very similar and has better value for money.

A decade in the making, the project turns its lens on America’s Gold Star Families, those who have lost loved ones in military service and the often unseen network of people who bear the weight of that loss.
