Residents angry after tree saplings planted as part of scheme cut down

HERE is anger in Truro after saplings which were planted less than two weeks ago as part of an improvement scheme have been cut down by vandals.

Work on the first phase of the Truro Town Deal-funded scheme to improve safety and provide better facilities for walking and cycling along the river's edge at Malpas was carried out in April.

The scheme for Malpas Road is the first to be delivered as part of the Green Transport project. It aims to improve pedestrian and cycling provision within the city and increase connectivity by creating better and safer links with existing assets, such as Malpas and Boscawen Park and the national cycle network route.

The first phase of the Malpas scheme involved the creation of a landscaped green space area in place of the Pendeen Road roundabout, which was transformed into a 'T' junction, together with new planting, paving, seating and footpath connectivity.

As part of the project completed by Cormac five young trees were planted. However, during the Bank Holiday weekend three of the trees were cut down with a saw and left dangling from their support.
