New pilot gig takes to the water after amazing fundraising effort

A BEAUTIFUL new Cornish pilot gig funded by a remarkable community effort has been launched by Flushing and Mylor Pilot Gig Club.
Kiln Quay in Flushing saw the launch of brand new gig Zethar on Sunday, June 1, with a ceremony conducted on the beach by Rev Andy Stevenson of St Peter's Church.
A large crowd gathered to see the new vessel arrive, with bagpipes playing Trelawney leading the procession from the club's gig shed at the end of Trefusis Road to Kiln Quay beach, where Bowside Shanty, drawn from gig club members, sang to welcome her.
Following the official naming and blessing, club chair Dave Matthews broke a specially-baked pasty over her bow.
