AMID the ongoing tussle over the post of the chief minister in Rajasthan, CM Ashok Gehlot on Sunday once again targeted party colleague Sachin Pilot without naming him. Gehlot said it is unusual that MLAs get agitated when a new chief minister's name is floated, as generally 80 per cent of the legislators switch sides when a new CM takes over in a state.
"I was in Jaisalmer at that time. I could not guess the developments that were brewing, but the MLAs sensed who was going to be the new chief minister and they reacted strongly," Gehlot said, without taking Pilot's name, while talking about the revolt carried out by a section of party MLAs last Sunday that put him out of the race for the Congress president's post. Pilot was tipped to succeed him if he had resigned as the CM to contest in the election for the party chief's post.
"I had already conveyed to madam (Sonia Gandhi) and Ajay Maken in August that it is not necessary that I should be the chief minister," Gehlot told the media during an interaction on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. "I had told them that our aim should be to revive the Congress party," he said.
