Vaccine in Time Can Avoid Rabies Death

Doctors say deaths due to the zoonotic disease because of the victims' failure to take vaccine on time or complete vaccination course. It's 100% preventable, but many neglect it due to lack of awareness
The death of 22-year-old Brijesh Solanki, a state-level Kabaddi player and resident of Farana in Uttar Pradesh, from rabies recently has left many in shock. In Solanki's case, the player reportedly failed to take the vaccine after he was bitten by a puppy he had rescued from a drain weeks before. The death is a reminder of the need to raise awareness on taking anti-rabies vaccination after dog bites.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), India is endemic for rabies, and accounts for 36% of rabies deaths globally. Although the true burden of rabies in India is not fully known, as per available information, it causes 18,000 to 20,000 deaths every year. About 30-60% of reported rabies cases and deaths in India occur in children under the age of 15 years, as bites that occur in children often go unrecognised and unreported.
Rabies death in humans is 100% preventable with vaccination, but many neglect it due to lack of awareness. The majority of them miss the vaccination schedule or don't take it at all, say doctors.

So You Think You are an Empath?
In this epoch of information overload, we watch a thousand crises unfold every day, where the sacred mixes with the profane at top speed, where the latest war updates are followed in quick succession by clips on how to wear a mekhela chador the proper way, how to make naan on an overturned tawa, what Ji Chang Wook said at the Gucci launch. This is popcorn for the brain, a topic I have addressed in an earlier column; we ingest everything, gulp it down, then move quickly on to the next snippet. Who really has the time to linger?

The Alpha School Project: A Daring Innovation
The Alpha Schools enterprise is a highly innovative experiment in school education in the US that commenced in 2014 based essentially on the use of AI. It is a bold departure from the traditional. Its essential features focus on personalised learning, efficiency, and holistic development. Founded in Austin, Texas, the Alpha School challenges the conventional modelwhere students endure lengthy lectures across fragmented subjects-by reallocating time to AI-powered learning and essential life skills. This for-profit private institution is crafting footprints in other cities. It also plans potential charter school integrations for broader access. It has at the same time sparked a debate: Is it a transformative force or a fleeting experiment?
