Northern Rye bakery launches at creative hub

INDEPENDENT Tyneside bakery Northern Rye is looking for new bakers having opened its third location, a coffee shop in North Shields.

The popular business, which was last year named best bakery in the North East at the National Bakery Awards, has launched in the town’s Harbour House building - a creative hub on Little Bedford Street.

Five jobs have already been created in the move, which adds to Northern Rye’s Ouseburn shop and Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate bakehouse locations. And now customers at the coast can enjoy the baker’s range of sandwiches, pastries, bakes and coffees.

Owner Robbie Livingstone, who lives in nearby Whitley Bay, explained he had been approached two years ago by the entrepreneurs behind Harbour House, which also features a yoga studio, florist and wedding space and is soon to feature a restaurant next door.

North Shields couple Skye-Alexander Ferry and Amy-bosé Wilson have remodelled the former Kasbah furniture market which is now also home to creative businesses.
