TAVISTOCK has been plagued by toilet vandals, prompting consideration of new measures to curb antisocial behaviour.
Public toilets in the centre of the town have been set on fire and vandalised. West Devon Borough Council (WDBC) has revealed that, within just a month, it has had to replace 25 toilet seats and five soap dispensers in its Guildhall toilets. The cost of the repairs and clean-up operations is running into thousands of pounds for taxpayers.
The council reported the toilets have been subjected to two instances of arson and vandalism in the past two weeks, with toilet seats and toilet roll holders being smashed, and damage to a baby changing unit. The facilities were due to reopen yesterday.
