HMS Ardent memories preserved

Following a private event this weekend, veterans will gather at HMS Drake on May 28 for a service attended by their patron, HRH The Duchess of Gloucester. More than 220 members of the HMS Ardent Association will be in Plymouth for the service of remembrance for the 22 crew who died.

The Duchess of Gloucester has remained a patron of HMS Ardent and then the HMS Ardent Association since she launched the ship in May 1975.

The founders of the association, Len Yeatman and Tony Ray, said their original idea for the association was to be a center of contact for the ship's company, and they are looking forward to the service of remembrance at HMS Drake marking the 40th anniversary of the conflict.

HMS Ardent was a Royal Navy Type 21 frigate, built by Yarrow Shipbuilders in Glasgow and launched by the Duchess of Gloucester on May 9, 1975. On April 19, 1982, Ardent sailed from Devonport for the Falkland Islands, as part of the Royal Navy's amphibious task force.
