From Tyneside to Buckinghamshire, snow fell across much of the country yesterday as forecasters warned temperatures could plunge to -15C.

Temperatures plummet as snow covers parts of UK

The Met Office said the mercury could dip to its lowest level of the year so far in some Scottish glens, especially where there was fresh snow cover.

Warnings for snow and ice were in place across the UK and more were expected to be issued as Arctic air sweeps through the country. The Met Office said 30cm-40cm of snow could fall in parts of central and southern Scotland tomorrow and Friday.
