The average person takes up to 10 000 steps each day. Your feet support your entire body weight and each has 26 separate bones held in position by many ligaments, tendons and muscles. These structures form arches that support the weight of the whole body.

As you raise your foot to take a step, the joints of the foot secure themselves into position. This allows you to move forward during normal walking and running.

When your foot strikes the ground, the joints of the foot unlock to absorb shock. The foot along with your knee acts as an efficient shock absorber to protect the rest of the body against excessive shock.
