India's central bank, the I Reserve Bank of India (RBI), is anticipated to pay a dividend of up to Rs 1 trillion ($12 billion) to the federal government, according to economists. This move is expected to bolster New Delhi's finances and assist in meeting its budget deficit target.
The central bank's board of directors is set to convene this week, likely to approve a dividend ranging between Rs 80,000 crore to Rs 1 trillion, as estimated by economists. Last year, the RBI transferred Rs 87,420 crore, with the government aiming for Rs 1.02 trillion, including dividends from state-controlled banks. If the RBI indeed disburses a dividend of Rs 1 trillion, it would mark the highest payout in five years.
