Sundowns have set the bar

This is one of the top CAF Champions League games of the week.

- Brent Carelse, former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder

Mamelodi Sundowns have grown to be a powerhouse, and I think this is another opportunity for us to show how good we are against MC Alger. Obviously, it's two top African teams coming up against each other, so yes, it's going to be an interesting one.Looking at the two sides in terms of the playing personnel and their technical approaches, it's going to be interesting. With coach Rhulani Mokwena having coached Sundowns and about to come up against a lot of players he knows, I think, tactically, both coaches have done their homework. From Rhulani's side, I think he'd like to get one over Sundowns.

I don't think much is going through Rhulani's mind right now, ahead of that game, because, like any other coach, he'd want his team to be as prepared and as focused as possible to try and win the game. If I were in coach Rhulani's shoes, I'd approach this game with caution because Sundowns are back in their groove and have been doing well in the Champions League. You'd want to prepare as well as possible because Sundowns are one of the best teams on the continent right now. So, from the coaches' side, they'd want to prepare their teams as well as possible because this is not just any other game. Yes, some people say coach Rhulani has a point to prove against Sundowns. I think maybe, but I am not sure, because whenever you play a match, you want to prove that you are a better side on the day, and that's definitely what he wants to achieve. But, having said that, I think he's astute enough to know it's not all about that, but rather about doing the basics right. As a former Sundowns player, I will always support them in this competition and I think they will do well.

Adams faces race against time

Jayden Adams' international future hangs in the balance, and the countdown has officially begun. With just one month remaining before Hugo Broos finalises his squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, the 24-year-old midfielder finds himself in a position few would have predicted two years ago. Once a rising star of Stellenbosch FC and a standout performer at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, Adams now faces the harsh reality of reduced game time at Mamelodi Sundowns and uncertainty around his Bafana Bafana role. The player who earned his way into Broos' plans through hard work and consistency has slipped into unfamiliar territory at club level, and his national team prospects have dimmed as a result. The Siya crew has been tracking his situation closely, uncovering worrying signs behind the scenes as Adams fights to keep his AFCON dream alive.
