NALCO eye hospital: From 100 to Nought

A modern eye hospital built by Navratna company NALCO in Angul district to provide free eye care to residents affected by industrial operations has remained locked for six years after its grand inauguration.
The %25-crore NALCO LV Prasad Eye Hospital was constructed on four acres of land under the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. It was intended to serve the people affected by NALCO’s plant operations and reduce visual impairment among residents. The facility was also expected to treat outpatients from other areas.
The hospital was inaugurated February 18, 2019, by the then Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan. Among those present were NALCO’s then CMD Tapan Kumar Chand, Executive Director RK Mishra, senior BJP leader Rudra Narayan Pani, and LV Prasad Eye Institute’s Vice Chairman Tara Prasad Das.
