Scheme to protect countryside has an extra £30m up for grabs

FARMERS and landowners in North Devon have been thrown a financial lifeline, as a major government-backed scheme to protect the countryside is extended by another year.
The Farming in Protected Landscapes (FiPL) programme, originally set to close in March 2025, will now run until March 2026, bringing with it an extra £30 million for projects across the UK's most scenic rural areas.
The initiative, backed by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), is designed to help farmers and land managers enhance biodiversity, tackle climate change, safeguard cultural heritage, and improve access to the countryside.
