No late night bus means people can't see shows

THE lack of a late night bus service from Torrington is stopping people having a night out, it's been claimed.

Devon county and Torridge district councillor Cheryl Cottle-Hunkin (Lib Dem, Rural Torrington) is leading a campaign to get the bus service extended to 10.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

The cost of providing an extra Stagecoach service would be £8,200 per year.

The last bus currently leaves the town for Bideford and Barnstaple at 9.50pm, before most performances finish at The Plough arts centre.

Devon County Council transport officers say there is no funding available in this financial year to fund a later bus service.

However, Cllr Cottle-Hunkin told a meeting of Torridge District Council's external overview and scrutiny committee last week that she would keep pushing for it.
