Man stabbed stranger in neck in unprovoked street assault

A MAN was nearly killed by a stranger who stabbed him in the neck in a North Devon town.

James Lammas ran at his victim and launched the ferocious attack in front of shocked members of the public in Ilfracombe High Street.

The victim was left bleeding heavily from the neck, head and arm as he fled to safety in a barbershop. Lammas, 56, appeared at Exeter Crown Court to be sentenced for wounding with intent.

The court was told he had a history of violence but many of his problems could be blamed on his difficult childhood and PTSD. He has been jailed for three years and four months.

The violence happened in the early evening of September 10, 2024. Prosecutor Brian Fitzherbert said the victim was sitting in a doorway speaking to a woman before the pair started to argue.
