CRUMBLING MOCK TUDOR PUB ON A56 WILL BE CONVERTED INTO NEW HOMES
DIANNE BOURNE
New lease of life for landmark

SITTING at a prominent point on the hectic A56 through Altrincham, The Wheatsheaf pub is a well known local landmark. But for years now the black and white-clad pub has been slowly crumbling into disrepair.

There has been a pub on the site since the 1700s, and it sits within Altrincham’s Old Marketplace conservation area on the corner of Church Street and Manchester Road. But The Wheatsheaf closed as a pub several years ago, and had been sitting empty and rotting as its future was decided upon.

But now, works are finally under way to save the building and begin its transformation. Hoardings have now been erected around the venue, and workmen are hard at work on the site.
