SIX children and their mother were rescued by gardai from a van being driven by a crazed man who rammed six patrol vehicles in pursuit. 

The Irish Mirror has learned the incident in Cork was sparked by a suspected domestic row on Wednesday night.

A “stinger” device, which punctures tyres when driven over, had to be used to bring the van to a halt before a man in his 30s was arrested.

A source said: “This could have ended in tragedy but thankfully the Garda response ensured it didn’t.

“But there can be no doubt, there could have been lives lost here. It was extremely dangerous.”

It’s the third major car-ramming incident in the last two weeks – the others in Cork and Ballyfermot, Dublin.
