A chance to remember the forgotten victims of terrorism in Ireland

Service salutes those slaughtered in Dublin and Monaghan bombs

A MAN who lost his father following the 1974 Dublin bombings said a service of remembrance is a chance to acknowledge the “forgotten” victims of terrorism in Ireland. 

Survivors organisation South East Fermanagh Foundation hosted its 10th annual Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving yesterday at St Tighernach’s Church, Clones, Co Monaghan.

Organisers said the theme is acknowledging “hidden victims of the Troubles in the Republic of Ireland”.

Among those attending was Edward O’Neill, who was just four when he was caught up in the blast on Parnell Street as loyalist bombs ripped through Dublin and Monaghan.

No one has ever been convicted over the four no-warning attacks on May 17 1974 which claimed 35 lives, including two unborn babies. The attacks were blamed on loyalists with many people believing British agents colluded in the atrocities.
