AFRICA’S Travel Indaba (ATI) is more than a premier showcase of the continent’s top tourism offerings; it’s a celebration of KwaZulu-Natal’s beauty and a powerful platform that positions South Africa firmly on the global investment map.

ATI 2025 a resounding success for KZN's tourism and local GDP

ATI 2025 was held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre and Durban Exhibition Centre from May 13 to 15. The prestigious global event played a vital role in spotlighting KZN on the world stage, while delivering a significant boost to the province’s GDP.

The direct economic impact on Durban’s GDP is estimated at R574 million, with direct spending totalling more than R232m; highlighting the substantial economic benefits. In addition, the event created more than 2 000 jobs, particularly for the youth and local communities, with an anticipated household income contribution exceeding R140m.

Current figures (still to be audited) indicate that ATI 2025 hosted about 10 000 attendees, marking an impressive 7.7% increase on the 9 280 delegates who attended in 2024; with more than 24 500 quality meetings held. The event attracted 1 348 exhibitors and 1037 buyers, with both exhibitor and international buyer numbers being the highest recorded in the past four years. A total of 27 African countries participated, including new entrants from Chad, St Helena and Burkina Faso.
