Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) booked two Central Goods and Service Tax (CGST) officials from Meerut, including a superintendent and inspector rank, for demanding a bribe from a private firm operator in the name of framing him in a tax violation case.
LUCKNOW: They booked the officials after arresting a private driver who was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh on behalf of the accused officials, confirmed CBI officials on Thursday.
"On information extracted from the driver, the CBI carried out searches at residential and official premises of the accused in Meerut which led to the recovery of incriminating documents pertaining to investment in several properties and also recovered cash," said an official, and added, "Further investigation in the case is going on."
