SIT formed, police send notices to UP Congress chief, others

The Lucknow police on Friday issued a number of notices, including one to state Congress chief Ajay Rai, to record their statements in connection with the death of party worker Prabhat Pandey on Wednesday.
LUCKNOW:
The death took place on a day on which the party staged a massive protest in the state capital. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed by police to probe the case, said an official aware of the matter.
"We have sent notice to Ajay Rai and 10-15 other officials to record their statement with the police," said DCP, Central, Raveena Tyagi.
"Besides, DVR has been sent to the forensic science laboratory and viscera has also been sent to the forensic examination for further tests," Tyagi said to HT.
After the party worker's death, an FIR was registered under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (at Hussainganj police station the same night on the complaint of Prabhat's uncle Manish Pandey.
