Police arrest agent in US illegal migration case

Punjab Police's NRI Affairs wing on Saturday arrested a travel agent accused of orchestrating unauthorised migration to the US, marking the first arrest following the deportation of 104 Indians on a US military transport aircraft earlier this month.
CHANDIGARH:
Anil Batra was arrested from his in-laws' residence in Patiala in connection with what authorities describe as a complex immigration scheme that mirrors the "dunki route" - a perilous journey through South and Central America.
The arrest comes as authorities investigate the networks behind a surge in undocumented migration that led to the unprecedented February 7 deportation flight to Amritsar, which brought back 72 men, 19 women and 13 children from Gujarat, Haryana, and Punjab.
