Another year, same struggle for sports infra

Another year has passed, yet the lack of proper infrastructure continues to dominate the challenges surrounding sports in Uttar Pradesh.
LUCKNOW: Barring the restructuring of existing facilities at KD Singh 'Babu' Stadium in Lucknow, which was done under the Smart City project, and a few other development works, nothing notable has happened.
The demands of the country's many top athletes from Meerut for an international athletics stadium are yet to be met. The construction of two other state government-run sports colleges is still in progress, and the facilities at three sports colleges in Lucknow, Gorakhpur and Saifai are in deplorable condition.
Even after spending more than Rs 18 crore over the last few years, an all-weather swimming pool facility at the KD Singh 'Babu' Stadium is still a dream as leaks mar the pool walls and make it difficult for hostel residents to train.
