37 killed in 48 hrs as rain batters UP, Raj

Thirty-seven people died in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh in the last 48 hours as rain continued to lash the states on Saturday, officials said.

‘At least 10 people were killed across Rajasthan in the last 24 hoursand schools were shut in six districts as heavy rainfall continued to wreak havoc. Of the 10 deceased, three each died in ‘Ajmer's Kishangarh and Pali districts, one in Sawai Madhopur on Saturday, two in Bikaner, and another one in Balotra on Friday.

“Three girls, all of whom were 18-year-old, died in Kishangarh on Saturday after they drowned in an overflowing canal. Two of them slipped and were swept away when the other two went to save them. The locals rescued the four but three of them died on the spot and the other girl is undergoing treatment,” said an official from the Ajmer district administration.
