Much-loved takeaway reopens year after fire destroyed kitchen

|May 22, 2025
A MUCH-LOVED Indian takeaway has reopened nearly a year on from a devastating fire which destroyed its kitchen and store room.
-
The blaze broke out at Saffron Indian takeaway, Pontypridd, in the early hours of May 24 last year.
Ray Miah, who works at the family-owned business, which is run by his sister Amina Begum, said they never believed it would take this long for Saffron to be back open and serving customers.
He said the past year was so “tough” they questioned if it would be worth reopening at all, but said they couldn't face letting their customers, who have become a “second family”, down.
“When we first went back to the shop, we were really optimistic and thought we'd be able to fix it within a few weeks,” Ray said.
