IIM Raipur aims to turn carbon-negative by 2027

THE INDIAN INSTITUTE of Management Raipur—among the second-generation IIMs that were set up in 2010—aims to go carbon-negative by 2027, the director Ram Kumar Kakani told FE.

"IIM Raipur has got a fantastic biodiversity nucleus focus, and our aim and intent—in terms of both thought as well as metrics—is to become carbon-negative by 2027," Prof Kakani said. "We are taking steps such as making the campus as green as possible so that it attracts fauna such as local reptiles and birds, generating our own electricity and giving it back to the community, as well as trying to minimize the consumption of groundwater and instead replenishing the water table."

He added that the 2027 goal isn't yet a publicly documented target, "but about proving to ourselves that we are taking steps towards carbon mitigation, and showcasing these steps to other institutes."
