Traffic Chinese takeaway among those alarmed at potential changes to route

LANNED bollards could block drivers from driving through a road to reduce traffic on a major cycling route.

Concorde Way connects the city centre to north Bristol and is mostly off the road, although one section runs along a residential road in Lockleaze.

Three years ago, as part of a public consultation, many people told Bristol City Council there was too much traffic on Dovercourt Road and not enough space for people walking and cycling. Now council bosses are considering how to cut the number of cars on the road.

This could include installing bollards at the bottom of Dovercourt Road, just above the junction with Downend Road. Known as a ‘traffic filter; this would let pedestrians and cyclists through, but drivers would not be able to travel along the whole length of the road.

Residents would still be able to drive to their houses, but potentially via a more circuitous route up Muller Road and then Filton Avenue. Four raised crossing points are also planned, as well as a zebra crossing, speed cushions and several new trees.
