SAM SHEPPEY TAKES A LOOK BACK AT THE LIFE OF THE LATE, GREAT TERRY VENABLES...
WE'LL MISS YOU, EL TEL

TERRY Venables was a man who lived his life to the fullest. With escapades in and outside of football with varying levels of success, he always looked to impart his wisdom.

Tributes poured in on Twitter when the death of Venables was announced in late November at the age of 80, with Gary Lineker labelling him as "not a coach or just a manager, but a friend".

Gary Neville called Venables "the most technically gifted British coach ever produced", with England manager Gareth Southgate saying: "He was a brilliant man who made people feel special." A larger-than-life character who meant so much to so many people, here is a look at some of his defining moments in football:

PLAYING DAYS

Born in Dagenham, Venables stayed in the capital throughout his playing career. He played for Chelsea, Tottenham, QPR and Crystal Palace. At Chelsea, Venables would earn his two England caps under Sir Alf Ramsey in 1964, the pinnacle for any player growing up.

During a professional career spanning 15 years, the East-End midfielder always had an eye for coaching. Venables took his FA coaching badges aged 24, passing with distinction and a 95 per cent pass mark.

COACHING CRYSTAL PALACE

Venables' first managerial role came at the last club he played for, Crystal Palace. He acted as Malcolm Allison's assistant coach for the 1975-76 season when Palace reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup as a Third Division side, taking over from Allison in June 1976.
