When Helen and Mike Neils, who live in New York City, were on the hunt for a forever holiday home, they had a precise idea of what they were after. They wanted to be in the coveted lanes of Amagansett, steps from the beach and the village, remembers their interior designer Monica Fried.
'They found a beautiful two-acre piece of property with a tear-down home on it. I had known Helen and Mike as neighbours, and they approached me very early in the project to recommend architects and builders. We brainstormed styles of houses and eventually they settled on a hybrid look that's contemporary but incorporates warm materials and a traditional roofline.'
