The Princess of Wales paid an emotional visit to families displaced by the Ukraine War last week. During a tour of the Ukrainian Community Centre in Reading she talked to those affected by the devastating conflict and praised a group of women – many of whom had left husbands and family as they fled their homes – for their bravery.
“It’s still all going on and you have loved ones and family in Ukraine, they still see the horrors of war every day,” Catherine said. “You’re showing a resilience, I’m overwhelmed by how strong you all are.”
Arriving in an LK Bennett polka-dot dress in the blue and yellow colours of the Ukrainian flag, and a Max&Co camel coat, she was presented with traditional Ukrainian welcome gifts of bread and salt before being given the tour.
The centre, in the princess’s birthplace of Reading, has been the hub of the Ukrainian community in Berkshire for years. But since the start of the conflict it has focused on supporting Ukrainians arriving in the UK, and delivering medical equipment and humanitarian aid to those on the front line.
