Bucket list by the seaside

Taking your own horse on holiday with you is a big tick off the bucket list. Georgia Guerin enjoys a seaside staycation with her pony and revives her riding spark
Bucket list by the seaside

I’D always dreamt that one day I’d be able to see my horses (note plural, I currently just have one pony) from my kitchen window while I did the washing up. On

this trip, while sitting watching my pony Utah from a hot tub on a summer’s evening, with a glass of prosecco in hand, I realised that I clearly hadn’t been dreaming big enough.

When Utah turned 15 last year, I decided we needed a bucket list if we were ever going to do more than hack. We weren’t unhappy with hacking, but I always did fancy doing more – as long as it didn’t involve too much time in the school.

Said bucket list had only three things on it: riding Utah on the beach, taking him cross-country and going hunting. These might seem small things to some, but not living anywhere near a beach and not having our own transport has always been a bit of a hindrance to these ideas of mine. So when I had the chance to take Utah to one of the destinations offered by Horse N Rider BNB, I was thrilled to find the perfect venue that would allow us to start ticking off our list.

Going to Field Farm seems to be something of a pilgrimage for horse owners in my area. It felt

like everyone I knew had been – and had a fantastic time – apart from me.

On the east coast of Lincolnshire, the holiday destination has everything you might possibly need to take your horse away with you. Depending on your budget, you can pitch a tent, glamp in a teepee, stop over on a narrowboat or stay in one of the holiday homes or homely cottages. And your horses have the choice between paddocks and stables – or both.
