GV Prakash - Best Of Both Worlds
Women Exclusive|We May 2018

It is not very often that someone exceptionally talented in one field can seamlessly cross over to another domain and make a mark in it too! But GV Prakash Kumar has surely perfected the art of balance, be it acting or belting out chartbuster songs.

GV Prakash - Best Of Both Worlds

It was 2006; the music of Veyyil had just released. The fresh rural beats and soul-stirring melodies immediately caught the attention of the audience and the critics alike. It was surprising that a young music composer just out his teens had composed these songs filled with emotion and musical prowess. The surprise slowly faded away as GV made excellence his consistency in each and every song. 50+ movies as music director, 10+ movies as an actor and several prestigious awards later, he still remains an eager learner never content with his achievements.

Veyyil marked his debut as a composer but singer GV Prakash had debuted much earlier. His musical journey started way back in his childhood when he crooned cult favourites such as “Chikku Bukku Rayile” and “Kuchi Kuchi Raakamma” for his uncle A R Rahman. Simultaneously he also formally learnt music and played in the school band, which paved the way for his career in cinema. This confidence in his musical abilities made him skip college studies and directly take the plunge in to music.

Despite coming from illustrious musical family, GV chose to start from scratch by assisting several music directors including Harris Jeyaraj and AR Rahman in more than 14 films. Parallelly he also composed jingles for many advertisements. When asked about getting the opportunity to compose for his first movie Veyyil, he mentions that director Vasantha Balan saw his show reel and approached him to compose for the movie and there has been no looking back since then.
