A Sports Boffin

How did you get into sports broadcasting?

It was through sheer determination, luck and my love for sports and broadcasting. During my Media Studies and Journalism course, I started looking for internship opportunities in my first year and landed an audition at Classic FM after months of pestering the HR manager. The news editor eventually opened his door to me after he heard my voice and saw my potential. In August 2006, the sports broadcaster at the station decided to abscond and I was given a chance to fill his position. I haven’t looked back since.

If you weren’t a broadcaster, what other career would you be best suited for — and why?

I’ve never pictured myself doing anything else, other than broadcasting, since making that decision when I was 10 years old. In primary school, while other children were playing, I’d spend break time recording mock interviews with friends in the English teacher’s classroom using her tape recorder [chuckles]. My mother says as a toddler, I loved listening to the radio and singing along to jingles.

What have you only recently formed an opinion about?
