Meet the barely visible beauty products that work overtime to enhance your look – Sharon Hunt reveals why you should take your make-up routine undercover.
The red lipstick. The dark winged eyeliner. There’s no doubt the high-impact products in your cosmetic case hog all the limelight. But here’s the rub: near-invisible preparatory and setting make-up products are the ones doing all the hard yards.
“Clever prep and setting products counterbalance the skin, so that you don’t have to be too heavy-handed with more visible make-up,” says make-up artist Elsa Morgan. “They’re also important for getting the most out of your products.”
Primer
When was the last time someone said, “That’s a nice primer you’re wearing”? Uh, never. The thing about primer is it’s virtually undetectable on the skin. So why bother? Let’s take the analogy of painting a wall. To get the best finish, there’s a list of steps you should go through before applying that final coat – and the same goes for your make-up.
“Starting your make-up routine with a primer allows your foundation to smooth easily over the skin and also helps the rest of your make-up to last longer,” explains Elsa.
