“If this trend continues, by June 30, we will achieve herd immunity. We will have infected 8.5 million people in National Capital Region (NCR),” OCTA fellow and mathematics professor Guido David said in an interview with The Chiefs on One News on Friday night.
“These are actual projections. By June 30, we will reach 8.5 million total cases (in NCR) if this trend, reproduction number continue… That’s herd immunity territory. It will be here before vaccination,” he added.
Yesterday, the Department of Health announced 7,999 new cases nationwide, surpassing Friday’s record of 7,103 cases since the pandemic began last year.
Guido said the number will probably be in the 8,000 level, saying it will be difficult to reverse the steep rise.
“It has the momentum right now to increase and we are going to see most likely 10,000 cases per day by the end of the month,” he said.
“If the projections are in line with what’s happening with the trends right now, then we just have two weeks before the hospitals reach critical care limit,” he added.
