His grandfather served as Chief Minister of Madras Presidency and was the last president of Justice Party his father was a DMK minister and Speaker of Tamil Nadu State Assembly. Though he was born into a family with such political history, PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan, who holds a doctorate in engineering from the uS, chose to spend decades in the corporate world before entering politics. Now, Thiagarajan heads the IT wing of the DMK, and is an incumbent MLA representing the party from Madurai central.

PUBLIC sector lender Canara Bank on Wednesday reported a healthy set of numbers for the fourth quarter of the past fiscal with a record net income for the reporting period as well as for the full-year logging in over 18% year-on-year profit at 3,757 crore for the three months ending March For the full fiscal year 2023-24, the Bengaluru-based bank booked 37.25% more net profit at Rs 14,554 crore as against Rs.10,604 crore in FY23, its managing director and chief executive Satyanarayana Raju told reporters on a concall.
L&T profit inches up 10% as overseas business declines
ENGINEERING and construction giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) on Wednesday reported tepid numbers with consolidated net profit rising 10% to 4,396 crore for the for the March quarter on an annualised basis as its revenue from overseas operations stumbled.
