Clubs bring home the bacon

WHAT a great weekend as our big two sporting clubs brought home the bacon to the Ocean City!

Clubs bring home the bacon

Plymouth Albion ran in seven tries in their National Division one rugby game against Darlington, while our good neighbours Argyle scored a 2-1 win away from home at Rochdale in the FA Cup.

Albion go again in National league action against a powerful Leeds at the Brickfields today, whilst Argyle came out of the hat drawing an FA Cup away fixture in Birmingham in January.

Covid certainly put a damper on so many of life’s pleasures, that it is a wonderful diversion to immerse oneself in the sporting efforts of our Ocean City’s finest.

My Dad, a lifelong armchair supporter of football club Wolves considers ‘The Blues’, Birmingham City as arch-rivals.

His support, as will that of Plymouth’s battalions of sporting fans, will be with you when you run out at St Andrews on January 8.

Meanwhile, all at the Brickfields wish you good luck as you continue your outstanding league form at Sunderland today. The reward of promotion in the spring is within your compass and I believe you will do it.

Back to the rugby, a wave of optimism ran through the club when we were approaching a return to competitive rugby back in September.

Brickfields was in fine shape, 16 new players joining those stalwarts who had remained faithful to the club through the tough times of the lockdown. A high-quality coaching team was in place under Damian Welch keen to build for the future.

The feeling was that we would be in the mix at the top of the table with promotion an outside possibility.
