Rs 104 cr e-challan in a month of new MV Act

The Maharashtra Traffic Police have issued e-challans worth Rs 104 crore in the first month of the amended Motor Vehicle Act coming into force, which increased the traffic fines by many folds, but the rise in fines has hardly acted as a deterrent.

Over 14 lakh e-challans were issued in the state, out of which only 2.15 lakh challans worth Rs 11 crore has been paid. The number is a mere 15 percent of the total challans.

According to the figures acquired from the state traffic police, the new amended motor vehicle act ic that came into force on December 11, has not proved n to be a deterrent for the vine olators as the violations continue to soar high.
