CHELSEA WIN 4-1 ON AGGREGATE

FOR the briefest of moments, Thomas Tuchel thought it was going to be about football. He should have known better.

"Thanks for ruining my evening!" he said, after watching Chelsea secure their place in the quarterfinals of the Champions League with a 2-1 win on the night and a 4-1 aggregate victory against Lille. “I was in such a good mood.”

Tuchel was asked about the prospect of having to play at an empty Stamford Bridge in the last eight because of the sanctions on Roman Abramovich prohibiting Chelsea from selling tickets.

It was the ultimate mood killer, and while a pertinent question, his frustration was understandable, because amid the turmoil swirling around the European champions right now, football goes on. And for him, this was a triumph from a footballing perspective.
