CORONAVIRUS CRISIS: THE FARCE AND THE FURIOUS TROUBLE VISION...

FURY remained focused on Dominic Cummings as he was ridiculed for saying he drove his family 60 miles during lockdown to a beauty spot, just to test his vision.

Scotland Minister Douglas Ross quit in protest at the actions of Boris Johnson’s top aide as 31 Tory MPs joined calls for Mr Cummings to resign.

But Cabinet Minister Michael Gove added to the vision of a short-sighted government as he claimed that he too had tested his eyesight by driving.

The chaos shredded voters’ trust as a Savanta/ComRes survey showed the Prime Minister’s approval rating has dropped to -1% compared with +19% just four days earlier.

The PM will be grilled by the Commons Liaison Committee today – his first appearance before the panel since entering No10 last July.

Senior MPs will tackle Mr Johnson over the Government’s response to the pandemic as well as his handling of the Cummings scandal.

The PM had hoped Mr Cummings’ press conference on Monday would quell a rising Conservative rebellion – but this was scuppered as Mr Ross quit.

Mr Ross said: “I have constituents who didn’t get to say goodbye to loved ones; families who could not mourn together; people who didn’t visit sick relatives because they followed the guidance of the Government.

“I cannot in good faith tell them they were all wrong and one senior adviser to the Government was right.”

Shadow Scottish Secretary Ian Murray said: “Integrity has been sadly lacking from this government, especially over the last 72 hours, so I commend him for making this difficult decision.”
