Celtic legend in race to become Southend boss
Shrimpers Eye Ace Larsson

FORMER Celtic and Barcelona striker Henrik Larsson watched on as Southend United won at MK Dons yesterday – and is in the frame to be their new boss.

Swede Larsson, who turned 48 on Friday, has previously managed in his homeland, notably in two spells with Helsingborg, but hasn’t taken a job

abroad. However, the Celtic legend is a major contender to become Southend boss and proved a lucky charm as they beat MK Dons 1-0 to bag their first League One win of the season.

Caretaker-manager Gary Waddock is another possibility for the Shrimpers post. After yesterday’s win, he said: “We were told Henrik Larsson was

here but it’s about the players on the pitch today. We were focusing on the game.”

Larsson was seen sitting with Southend chairman Ron Martin and is set to be interviewed for the Roots Hall role.

The Shrimpers axed manager Kevin Bond after a poor start to the season.
