Hollywood trató de convertirlo en un rompecorazones, considerándolo el más guapo de los Chrises. Pero mientras todos lo daban por sentado como un hombre agradable con una sonrisa de 1000 kilowatts y protagonista de distintas franquicias, Chris Pine estaba descubriendo qué tipo de hombre quería ser en realidad. Tras 20 años de trayectoria, estuvimos con él en su hogar, situado en las colinas de Los Angeles, donde Pine nos revela los planes que tiene en mente para los siguientes 20 años. Pero primero, ya lo entenderán, una visita al sauna.

“Ok, un poco de cedro”, dice Chris Pine. “Aquí vamos. Romero”.

Un lunes por la mañana en las colinas de Hollywood. Estamos en el sauna de Pine, un cubo de madera y cristal cerca del límite de su propiedad. Chris con una barba ligera con toques grisáceos, usando solamente unos shorts naranjas y agarrando botellas y colocando aceites esenciales en una chimenea alta con piedras calientes que crean el ambiente perfecto.

“Ah, sí, las hojas enoki”, dice. “Esas son las mejores”. Chris mira el termómetro: 48 grados y en aumento. Toma un ramo de hojas para moverlas en el aire mientras me explica, pero no son las típicas hojas, aunque también tiene unas menos exóticas. Mueve el aire a su alrededor. Después se acomoda en una banca a mi lado, en una sentadilla de yoga impresionantemente profunda, con su trasero en sus talones.

El aire en mi boca se siente como un algodón de azúcar. Busco el agua en el congelador que me ofreció minutos atrás. “Si sientes que sabe raro”, dice Chris, “es porque puse una hoja de té de cebada”. Las probó por primera vez en un restaurante coreano: y ahora es un fanático del té de cebada. Se ha convertido en parte del proceso del sauna. Chris disfruta mucho de este proceso, preparándose un espresso al costado del fuego. “Me gustan todos los rituales”, confiesa. “Incluso puedo ir a una misa católica porque me gusta la estética. Y un sauna es todo un ritual. Se trata de darte un tiempo donde no hay nada que hacer más que purificarte, relajarte, limpiarte, y comenzar de nuevo”.
