Modern minimalism meets bohemian flair at an attic apartment in Budapest. Renovated by Margeza Design Studio, it’s filled with energetic colours and whimsical details that reflect the designers’ own vibrant personalities. The cherry on top? Gorgeous views of the city!

White Beauty

At an age when most people retire to live the quiet life, sometimes by retreating to a place that’s away from the hustle and bustle of the city, interior designers Margit Szinger and Geza Hamori were out and about, seeking new ways to channel their inner creativity. The couple are Belgian nationals of Hungarian origin, and live near the Belgium Luxembourg border. While Geza, the husband, worked for the EU Court of Justice as a librarian and as a curator for contemporary art exhibits in Luxembourg in his free time, Margit, the wife, was a biologist, who later acquired a second diploma from the University of Crafts in Budapest. After dedicating years to their independent careers, the couple founded Margeza, a unique design studio based on the philosophy of creating livable spaces with good energies. The practice is one-of-its-kind — the couple enjoys exercising their creativity without the constrictions a client would place on them by buying apartments they like and designing them as they please. The apartments are then put on sale, and inhabited by the couple in the interim.

It goes without saying that both Geza and Margit are extremely passionate about their work. “In our years of retirement, we wanted to do something that provided us with joy, and was useful to others. Therefore, we always create livable spaces, ones that we enjoy for a short period, and afterwards, refilled with curiosity and a sense of adventure, go on to make something new,” explains Geza.
