It’s a real pleasure to have you, Courtney, thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to speak to us. Could we start with you telling us a bit more about yourself, and what got you started on your fitness journey? Thanks so much for having me. I’m honored to be associated with something like Men’s Fitness, which I’ve been a reader of for many years. I am lucky to come from a family of athletes on both my parents’ sides. My Dad was a college basketball player and my Mom a ballerina but my grandparents did a lot of competitive sports ranging from basketball to skiing to tennis and even grew up waterskiing on Lake Michigan. Thus I was introduced to sports at a very young age and loved trying new ones. Eventually, soccer emerged as my best sport, and was All-State in Illinois and even have dreams of trying to play professionally but ultimately ended up settling for playing in college at Columbia.
Forgive us for pointing out the obvious, but your business profile is really impressive and versatile, at your core though, what would you say are some of the personal and business interests that really pique your interest? I don’t think I realized it when I was working at Goldman Sachs out of college but I really love building things and strategizing on different ways to innovate. I think also creating things that can help as many people as possible in certain facets of their life has emerged as a theme of both myself and my company M13. I am also very passionate about all things involving the environment.
Who are some of the people that really inspired you to keep pushing towards your goals, no matter what? My Dad. He pushed me so hard but was also such an inspiration in all aspects of his life.
