Diabetes is common in humans, but is equally prevalent in dogs. Here are some facts and know-how on diabetes in dogs to help your pet’s conditions.
Diabetes happens when the body is not able to produce enough insulin to digest the food intake and create energy or when the body’s cells are unable to use insulin efficiently. The same happens with dogs.
1 There are signs that indicate whether or not your dog has diabetes or is in it’s early stages. The visible symptoms are excessive thirst, increase in urination and weight loss, even if the food intake is proper. Tests can be done to confirm the disease and the results may include ketones in the urine, glucose in the blood and urine, enlarged liver and many others.
2 Diabetes affect middle aged or senior dogs more than the puppies. The average age when a dog is diagnosed this disease is seven years. It is more common in female dogs. It happens majorly to the breeds like, Keeshonds, Pulis, Cairn Terriers, Miniature Pinschers, Poodles, Samoyeds, Australian Terriers, Schnauzers, Spitz, Fox Terriers, Bichon Frise, and Siberian Huskies.
