Staying in Brooklyn looks cool on TV, sure, but if your itinerary features more stops in Manhattan than it does trying to recreate scenes from You (please don’t do this), the journey from one borough to the other isn’t worth whatever marginal savings you might nab.
Where to then? Whether it’s your first time in New York, or you’re a veteran, the best places to stay are the ones near cheap public transport. This is not the city to stay cooped up in your hotel room, reading novels. If you’re in the big apple, you’ll need an easily accessed base of operations.
